Erasmus in Wisdom

ERASMUS +
International mobility

For almost 30 years, Europe has funded the Erasmus programme, which has enabled over three million European students to spend part of their studies at another higher education institution in Europe. Erasmus + has now created these opportunities, allowing movement from other parts of the world to “Programme countries” and mobility of European students to “Partner Countries”.
Mobility can be defined as a certain period of study or training abroad (as part of ongoing studies at a local institution) to earn credits. After the mobility phase, students return to their institution of origin, where the credits are recognized and at the same time they complete their studies. “Programme countries”: EU member states, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Turkey; “Partner Countries”: all other countries worldwide grouped together in different regions.
In order for mobility to take place, a HEI in a “Programme country” must sign an inter-institutional agreement with a HEI in a “Partner Country”. According to this agreement, it can host students, master’s, doctoral candidates or staff from HEIs “Partner Countries” and vice versa.
In the agreement, the sending and receiving institutions agree on the categories of courses open to visiting students and on the possibilities for staff movement. These agreements ensure that the sending institution recognizes credits earned by its students for activities successfully completed abroad, which will be recognized on the student’s degree upon return.
